Narong Prangcharoen on Mahidol Music

Dean talks about the making of a top music college in Thailand

Narong Prangcharoen is the Dean of the College of Music at Mahidol University. A prolific composer and founder of the annual Thailand International Composition Festival (TICF), he has led Mahidol’s music programme towards a new standard of excellence.

In 2024, as the College celebrated its 30th anniversary, Mahidol Music was ranked 35th in the QS World University Rankings for music education—remaining the only Thai institution in the global top 50.

The college, part of the prestigious Mahidol University, has flourished under Narong’s international vision, bolstered by a globally connected network and a strong international faculty. It is particularly distinguished in vocal performance, composition, brass, jazz, and music therapy.

This is the first episode of a full-length interview with Narong Prangcharoen, recorded on August 16, 2024, at Prince Mahidol Hall during the 18th TICF.

The rest of the interview will be released in the coming months.

This is an English programme without subtitles.
