Kandinsky and music
My continuous effort in exploring unconventional and new concert venues takes me to the Yu Space of Guangzhou, an independent art space opened last year, where a chamber music concert took place Friday evening that paid homage to the musical landscape painted by Kandinsky.
Curated by two theatre directors and supported by the gallery owner, the concert loosely connected Kandinsky’s theory with exemplary musical contributions from Debussy, Andersen, Shostakovich and Vivaldi etc performed by an all-female piano quintet.
After the concert the audiences were encouraged to share their thoughts and the musicians were able to speak with their tongues. It was also great for the curators to introduce the ideas behind the concert in the scope of synthesis.
The venue is looking into more concerts exploring cross disciplinary genres of cultures and arts.
